Underwood Civic Club
The Underwood Civic Club is an organization of volunteers whose purpose is "to provide the younger business and professional men and women of Underwood a medium for training in citizenship and association of commerce work, to promote the civic, industrial and educational activities of the City of Underwood, to secure and disseminate accurate information relating thereto, to oppose legislation unfavorable thereto, and to support and promote legislation favorable thereto." Primarily a service organization, the Underwood Civic Club hosts the following annual events:
Harvest Fest
One of Underwood's most popular events, the Harvest Fest is held in August each year and consists of a parade, flower and recipe contest, games and events, various fundraising opportunities for local charities and other groups, and a street dance.
Hometown Holidays and Concert
One of the county's most popular holiday events, the Hometown Holidays and Concert opens with the Kountry Kids 4-H Craft Bazaar and is followed by the Augustana Lutheran Church's Christmas Tea , Kids' Shopping Night, and a Holiday Concert at the Underwood Public School.
Easter Egg Hunt
Always a springtime favorite, where the Easter Egg Hunt is held is dependent, like all North Dakota spring events, on the weather. If the weather cooperates, the hunt is held at the Underwood City Park. If it doesn't, the hunt is held inside at City Hall. Games and food round out this annual event.
Other activities of the Underwood Civic Club include sponsorship of the Citywide Rummage Sales, a Customer Appreciation Pancake and Sausage Supper, and participation in the McLean County Fair.

McLean County Fairgrounds
History
The Underwood fairgrounds lie deep in the tradition of Underwood and McLean County. Begun in 1905, the Underwood Fair Association established fairgrounds and hosted a fair every year until 1914. When the fair discontinued, an event called the County Play Day filled the void. Each spring schools from around the county would come to Underwood to participate in thespian contests. County Play Day was held annually for over 25 years, but ceased during World War II.
The modern era of the fair started in 1957 when the McLean County Fair was started. All of the towns in the county were given an opportunity to submit offers to host the fair. Underwood offered the land and a steel building that had previously been used at the Garrison Dam and was chosen for the site of the McLean County Fair because of its central location in the county. In 1958 the McLean County 4-H Council voted to move ahead with plans for a 4-H livestock barn at the fairgrounds, and in the 1960's the fair board constructed the racetrack with help from the county.
Fairgrounds Today
Today the McLean County Fair stresses 4-H and FFA achievements. Operating on a small budget each summer the fair board tries to provide "good clean fun" for the people of the county. The midway consists of a carnival, 4-H achievements, music, free beef barbecue, and car races along with judging in the home economics, livestock, school handicrafts, and 4-H projects.
In the off-season the fairgrounds are available as RV and campsites for visitors taking advantage of the area's many outdoor recreational opportunities, including hunting, fishing, canoeing, boating, and bird watching.

Underwood Senior Citizens Club
The Underwood Senior Citizen's Club was organized in May 1974 and is currently housed in the former Underwood City Office building on Lincoln Avenue. Programs include Meals-on-Wheels, which serves meals to the elderly and disabled in McLean and Mercer Counties, and bus service for the elderly through the West River Transportation Council. The bus service is used for the Meals-on-Wheels program as well as for local trips and daytrips to Bismarck for medical and other appointments. The center is open six days a week until 4:00 pm. Seniors enjoy visiting, playing cards, pool, puzzles, piano, and organ music. Scheduled monthly events include a card party on the first Saturday and a birthday party the second Saturday of the month.
The facility may be rented out for birthday parties, anniversary parties and meetings. The annual fundraiser is a pancake and sausage breakfast and a pie social in the fall.
